The campaign manager of Azruddin Mohamed’s political party, We Invest in Nationhood (WIN), is under fire after sharing animated images online that many perceive to carry racial implications.
On a recent Tuesday morning, Odessa Primus released two photos featuring children in what appeared to be distressed situations, holding bowls and looking for food. These images prominently displayed the party’s colors and emblem, with one featuring a lighter-skinned child at the center, seemingly pleading with folded hands among other children.
Initially, Primus did not elaborate on her reasoning for posting these images, but the online community quickly condemned them as offensive and divisive, interpreting them as perpetuating a racial narrative regarding poverty.
As criticism mounted, Primus attempted to clarify her stance by revising her post, denying approval for such a message: “I do not like the message the images seem to be implying. Not for any political campaign would I create it nor approve its creation.” Nevertheless, the original photos remain visible on her profile and continue to circulate widely.
In response to the growing backlash, WIN released a statement asserting that they bear no accountability for the controversial images. This incident arises as WIN strives to establish its credibility amidst ongoing scrutiny of its leadership.
