The ‘We Invest in Nationhood’ (WIN) political party has officially presented its manifesto for the upcoming 2025 General and Regional Elections, outlining a vision for increased salaries and expanded social services. The launch transpired at the WIN headquarters in Providence, East Bank Demerara, featuring presidential hopeful Azruddin Mohamed alongside notable candidates including former Agriculture Director of the Guyana Sugar Corporation, Vishnu Panday.
Among the party’s primary pledges is a reduction in the Value Added Tax (VAT) from 14% to 10%, alongside the introduction of zero-rated items. Mohamed emphasized the party’s commitment to developing additional policies aimed at benefiting the populace.
Addressing concerns regarding the financial feasibility of these commitments, he criticized current government spending practices as wasteful and assured that a WIN administration would rectify this waste. Furthermore, he expressed intentions to renegotiate the 2016 oil contract with ExxonMobil to secure more equitable terms for Guyana, which has faced backlash for favoring oil companies.
When confronted about his family’s sanctions imposed by the US Department of the Treasury, Mohamed remained optimistic, asserting that international relations would improve under his leadership, yet did not provide further details.
The sanctions against the Mohamed family have resulted in the loss of business licenses and bank accounts, and following Azruddin’s announcement to run for president, the WIN party is among the six factions cleared to participate in the elections.
