On Wednesday, Magistrate Faith McGusty conducted a significant site visit to the Ashmins Building in Georgetown, a pivotal location in the ongoing fraud trial concerning the 2020 elections. During this visit, several crucial witnesses pinpointed specific areas relevant to their testimonies.
The Ashmins Building served as the Command Centre for the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) during the 2020 election period. This inspection is part of the legal proceedings involving nine individuals accused of plotting to falsify the election results in favor of the APNU+AFC coalition.
Among those present were Minister of Local Government Sonia Parag, observer Rosalinda Rasul, former Region Four Police Commander Edgar Thomas, and Kian Jabour. They were individually escorted into the building to identify various locations discussed in court.
The prosecution oversaw the questioning during this documented inspection, taking measurements and noting key areas such as the ground floor tabulation room and the balcony where Mingo reportedly made a fraudulent election declaration. Edgar Thomas pointed out a particular room linked to GECOM staff member Enrique Livan, while Jabour guided attention to an upstairs room where GECOM Chairperson Justice Claudette Singh was allegedly situated during the critical events.
This site visit is a customary part of legal processes to provide the court with a tangible understanding of the locations tied to testimony and to assist in clarifying evidence.
The nine defendants, which include former minister Volda Lawrence and former Chief Elections Officer Keith Lowenfield, are set to return to court on September 15.
