The World Health Organization has urgently sounded the alarm about escalating malnutrition levels in Gaza, describing the situation as being on a “dangerous trajectory” amidst the resumption of aid airdrops.
On Sunday, Jordan and the UAE coordinated to deliver aid, coinciding with Israel’s declaration of a temporary ceasefire in specific areas to facilitate humanitarian access.
According to Israel, this tactical pause, lasting 10 hours daily, aims to challenge accusations of deliberate starvation, a claim Hamas has rebuked as an attempt to improve its image.
Jordanian military aircraft successfully delivered 25 tonnes of assistance, while additional aid also entered from Egypt. However, reports emerged of casualties, including nine fatalities and over 50 injuries, caused by Israeli fire along the aid convoy route.
Footage confirmed airstrikes took place in areas previously identified by Israel as safe zones, raising further concerns about civilian safety during aid operations.
As desperation grows, Palestinians have rushed to secure incoming food supplies, indicative of the dire circumstances. The UN reports that a staggering one-third of Gaza’s population experiences food scarcity, with many facing famine-like conditions.
International leaders, including the UK’s Foreign Secretary, emphasize that while airdrops provide temporary relief, sustainable land routes for continuous aid are critical. Calls for intensified global efforts to address the crisis have gained urgency, with local residents expressing cautious hope yet profound concern for the future.
