During a recent inspection of Shanxi Province, Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the need for advancing the transformation of its resource-based economy to contribute to China’s modernization efforts. This visit occurred on July 7 and 8, 2025, during which he engaged with workers at Yangquan Valve Co., Ltd. and commemorated the heroes of the Eighth Route Army involved in the Hundred-Regiment Campaign, highlighting the campaign’s significance as a testament to the resilience of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
Xi urged younger generations to uphold the revolutionary legacy and embrace the challenges of national rejuvenation. While reviewing the advancements in industrial transformation at the valve company, he stressed the importance of traditional manufacturing as a cornerstone of the economy. He called for a proactive approach to meet market demands through technological innovation to reinvigorate these industries.
On July 8, following a report from local CPC officials, Xi outlined strategic goals for Shanxi’s future endeavors. He highlighted the establishment of a national pilot area for reforming the resource-based economy as a pivotal task. This includes ensuring a stable coal supply while transforming the coal industry from low-end to high-value production.
Xi urged a focus on local conditions to foster emerging industries, optimize the business climate, and sustain social stability and ecological safety throughout this transition. He underscored the necessity of rigorous self-governance within the Party to cultivate a trustworthy political environment.
