On April 24, Beijing (Xinhua) reported that Chinese President Xi Jinping held a telephone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump to discuss their countries’ relationship and the ongoing situation on the Korean Peninsula. Both leaders committed to maintaining regular communication to address significant mutual concerns promptly.
President Xi emphasized China’s strong opposition to any actions that breach United Nations Security Council resolutions, urging all involved parties to exercise caution and avoid exacerbating tensions. He highlighted that achieving denuclearization of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea hinges on all parties taking responsibility and finding common ground.
Noting their recent fruitful discussions during a meeting at Mar-a-Lago, Xi stated that constructive communication had garnered positive feedback from both Chinese and American citizens, as well as the global community. He asserted the need for China and the U.S. to maintain close contact to navigate the rapidly evolving international landscape.
Xi called for an enhancement of cooperation between the two nations and urged teams from both sides to prepare adequately for Trump’s upcoming visit to China. He reaffirmed the establishment of a four-pronged dialogue mechanism encompassing security, economy, law enforcement, and cultural exchanges.
In turn, Trump expressed satisfaction with their recent meeting, underscoring the significance of ongoing collaboration between the U.S. and China on critical issues and expressing eagerness for future engagement.
