Speaker of the National Assembly Manzoor Nadir has reaffirmed his stance on the upcoming election of a Leader of the Opposition, emphasizing that the final decision rests with opposition Members of Parliament.
Nadir’s address highlighted the international legal concerns surrounding presumptive nominee Azruddin Mohamed and the significance of non-government MPs’ role in this process. He stressed the importance of upholding the Constitution and preserving parliamentary dignity, while cautioning against elevating notorious figures to positions of power.
Attorney General Anil Nandlall also expressed his support for Nadir’s position, emphasizing the need for opposition MPs to make the final decision. The two officials emphasized that Guyana’s parliamentary democracy should be assessed within its constitutional framework.
