A Texas jury has delivered a verdict of not guilty in the trial of former Uvalde school district police officer Adrian Gonzales, who was accused of 29 counts of child abandonment or endangerment in connection with the 2022 Robb Elementary School shooting. The acquittal comes after only seven hours of deliberation by the jury.
Gonzales faced charges stemming from the early minutes of the May 24, 2022 attack, which resulted in the deaths of 19 children and two adults, making it the deadliest school shooting in Texas history.
Despite his defense team presenting two witnesses on his behalf, Gonzales did not take the stand during the trial. Meanwhile, former Uvalde schools police chief Pete Arredondo also faces criminal charges related to the same incident.
