Georgetown, Guyana’s capital city, has been plagued by stagnation for far too long. Minister Kwame McCoy has stepped in to address these issues, citing the government’s national mandate for urgent action.
The administration is focused on modernizing the capital, in line with President Irfaan Ali’s transformative agenda. The plan includes a multi-agency team to tackle flooding, collapsing drains, and ageing infrastructure.
McCoy rejects the notion that government intervention is politically motivated, instead highlighting practical actions such as a partnership with the UK-based King’s Foundation.
The minister emphasizes that this intervention is not about undermining municipal government, but about meeting the urgent needs of citizens who have endured inaction for too long.
The transformation plan includes wide stakeholder consultation and incorporates institutional knowledge from City Hall’s technical officers.
