According to the South China Morning Post, a father and son from China have set up a home laboratory dedicated to building miniature models of China's major national strategic hardware, which has garnered considerable online attention due to their demonstrated skill and enthusiasm.
Duan Yanjuan, who is a 13-year-old student in the second year of junior secondary school in Shanghai, has, with the help of his father, Duan Changzhi, managed to replicate several complex items, including turbojet engines, pulse detonation engines, and an electromagnetic aircraft launch system.
The motivation behind replicating the electromagnetic aircraft launch system reportedly originated from news reports concerning the sea trial of the Chinese aircraft carrier Fujian in 2024.
Furthermore, the South China Morning Post noted that in addition to science education, Duan senior aims to instill a sense of patriotism in his son, with the hope that he will develop into an individual who is beneficial to the nation and society.
