Consumer Confidence Index Drops to 12-Year Low in September, Per Conference Board

The Conference Board announced on Tuesday that its consumer confidence index declined by 6.7 points to 81.9 for September, compared to 88.6 in August. This figure represents the lowest reading in the board's survey since April 2014 and is also lower than the lowest point recorded during the pandemic, according to the South China Morning Post.
Furthermore, the index showed a decrease in respondents' assessments of their current circumstances, which fell by 7.9 points to 109.3. Similarly, the outlook for the near future also declined, sliding by 5.9 points to 63.6.
