The South China Morning Post reports that a minimum of three data centre proposals have been put on hold recently because of apprehensions concerning water and power supplies, noise levels, and potential environmental harm.

Last month, the property developer Goodman Group decided to withdraw its application for a 90-megawatt data centre located in Lane Cove, which is situated on Sydney’s lower north shore. This withdrawal followed several months of opposition from local residents who raised concerns about the possible effects on their electricity and water supplies, noise pollution, and other issues.

Goodman stated in a press release that the decision was made after taking into account shifts in the policy and regulatory environment, as well as input received from residents.

The South China Morning Post also noted that this is not the first instance this year where a developer has abandoned a proposed data centre project in Australia.
