Guyana’s First-Half Local-Content Spending Reaches About US$466.2 Million

The reported total was about US$114.2 million higher than the figure for the same period a year earlier. Separately, 20 areas are under consideration for addition to the existing 40-category local-content schedule; they have not been approved.

Kaieteur News reports that oil and gas companies spent approximately US$466.2 million procuring goods and services in sectors prioritised for greater Guyanese participation during the first six months of 2026. The comparable figure reported for the same period a year earlier was US$352 million. The figures imply an increase of about US$114.2 million, or roughly 32%; this is a comparison of reported spending, not an explanation for the separate schedule review.

The Ministry of Finance’s mid-year report says 20 additional areas were identified for consideration for the first schedule under goods and services. The existing schedule has 40 categories. The additional areas remain prospective: if approved, they would bring the total to 60 specified areas.

The report also records 500 more Guyanese businesses registered with the local-content secretariat in the first half of 2026. Separately, it says an online portal was launched to reduce processing times for local-content certification. Government-stated timelines are up to 15 working days for new applications and 10 for renewals from wholly owned Guyanese companies and business partnerships; for other firms, the limits are 21 working days for new applications and 15 for renewals.
