Hong Kong's Financial Sector Leads Global Financial Centers in Female Leadership Acceptance
According to a report from October 2025, Hong Kong ranks first among global financial centers for its societal acceptance of women in leadership, with women holding 45% of senior leadership roles and 37% of board seats in the financial services industry, showing double-digit growth since 2018.
Industry experts suggest that expanding female leadership beyond the finance sector hinges on top-level dedication, transparent career advancement routes, and workplace adaptability, according to the South China Morning Post.
Currently, there is a high probability that a woman occupies the leadership role within any major financial institution in Hong Kong. Women now account for 45 per cent of senior leadership positions and 37 per cent of board seats within Hong Kong’s financial services industry, representing increases in double digits since 2018.
These statistics were presented in the report titled “Tipping the Scale,” which was released in October 2025 by Women Chief Executives Hong Kong, KPMG China, and The Women’s Foundation. This report positioned Hong Kong as the top-ranked global financial center regarding the societal acceptance of women in leadership.
Subsequent reforms have been implemented, including the prohibition of single-gender boards within Hong Kong’s capital market starting January 1, 2025. Furthermore, disclosure is now required for both workforce diversity policies and gender-diverse nomination committees.
