Lawrence Dallaglio to Auction Career Memorabilia Following Bankruptcy Declaration
Former England captain Lawrence Dallaglio plans to sell several significant items from his rugby career, including his 2003 Rugby World Cup winner's medal, after being declared bankrupt. The auction, scheduled for October 13 at Budd's in Northamptonshire, features a collection with an estimated total value of £180,000.
According to BBC UK, former England captain Lawrence Dallaglio intends to sell his 2003 Rugby World Cup winner's medal subsequent to his declaration of bankruptcy. The 54-year-old has listed various items from his distinguished career for auction, such as medals, trophies, and caps. The World Cup medal alone is anticipated to fetch between £50,000 and £80,000, contributing to a total estimated value of £180,000 for the entire collection.
Other items slated for sale include a British and Irish Lions cap, his 1993 World Cup Sevens winner's medal, and a 2003 Six Nations Championship winner's medal. Dallaglio, who was a key player for the England team that secured the World Cup victory over Australia 23 years ago, discussed his financial difficulties during an appearance on The High Performance podcast earlier this month.
During that discussion, Dallaglio stated that his bankruptcy resulted from his divorce, noting that he experienced financial issues and felt he could have managed things more effectively. He also mentioned that following his divorce and bankruptcy, he sought therapy to address feelings of "self-pity."
The auction is set to take place on October 13 at Budd's, which is located in Northamptonshire.
