Nine-Year-Old Albie-Junior Thomas Meets Catherine, Princess of Wales After Three Peaks Challenge
Albie-Junior Thomas, a nine-year-old boy from Holywell, Flintshire, met Catherine, Princess of Wales, at Windsor Castle following his completion of the Three Peaks challenge alongside his father, Daniel. The meeting followed a letter from Daniel detailing his son's ascent of the highest mountains in Wales, Scotland, and England.
According to BBC UK, Albie-Junior Thomas, who completed the Three Peaks challenge with his father after losing a leg, had the opportunity to meet Catherine, Princess of Wales, to celebrate his achievement. Albie-Junior attended a tea party at Windsor Castle after his father sent a letter describing how he had climbed the highest peaks in Wales, Scotland, and England.
Daniel mentioned that he felt the message might resonate with the princess because she had completed her own Three Peaks challenge to support the hospital where she received treatment for cancer. In a post on X, the princess stated that it was a pleasure to hear the accounts of resilience, determination, and hope shared by everyone she encountered.
Albie-Junior was born without a fibula in his left leg, and his foot was removed when he was 15 months old. Despite this, at the age of four, he became the youngest amputee to climb Yr Wyddfa, which is the highest peak in Wales.
In August, he finished the Three Peaks Challenge in 22 hours and 30 minutes alongside his dad. This accomplishment was achieved with preparation spanning four months and was fueled by ham and cheese sandwiches, sour sweets, and his training. The challenge included conquering Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England, and Yr Wyddfa.
Daniel described the moment they received a phone call inviting them to Windsor Castle as unbelievable. Upon their arrival, Daniel stated that he remained in the background to allow Albie-Junior to experience the event, noting that it was his focus. He described the interaction as being like a chat with a lady, emphasizing its innocence, and felt it was similar to a mother speaking to a son. Daniel also noted that the conversation stood out to him because of how pleasant it was and that Catherine made him feel like they were equals.
In a separate post on X, the princess remarked that hearing about their experiences with the challenge and their motivations for undertaking it served as a strong reminder that recovery is seldom a solitary journey and highlights the significance of the people who support individuals along the way.
Daniel conveyed that despite receiving millions of views on their social media platforms, his son remains humble, asserting that all he has done is climb a few mountains. Daniel stated that for Albie-Junior, it was simply doing what boys should do, which is getting out and having fun, and that it was not for fame.
Daniel also shared that they are making plans to climb Kilimanjaro in Tanzania in August 2027, and they are organizing up to ten other people to join them. He added that when a challenge is set, the goal is to complete it, but also to ensure proper acclimatization and safety. Daniel indicated his intention to contact Guinness World Records because Albie-Junior could potentially become the youngest amputee to climb the mountain, stating he is determined to have him included.
