OCA Claims Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games Were a Success Despite Logistical Issues
The Olympic Council of Asia stated that the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games achieved success, citing a near 20 per cent rise in revenue, strong viewership, and numerous world records, even while acknowledging various logistical problems.
According to the South China Morning Post, the director general of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) asserted that the figures demonstrated the success of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, noting a near 20 per cent increase in revenue, robust viewership statistics, and a significant number of world records. These records included 54 world records, 11 junior world records, and 89 Asian records. This assessment was made despite logistical difficulties that affected the multi-sport event.
The Games experienced several incidents, such as athletes being transported to incorrect venues and the North Korean national anthem being played for the South Korean hockey team. Furthermore, there was an insufficient number of beds available for the more than 17,000 athletes and officials, which was a larger contingent than at the Olympics. Additionally, countries reported instances of being delayed at the airport upon arrival for up to six hours.
