Traffic Jam Persists Despite Open Malaysian Counters at Malaysia-Singapore Causeway
A traffic jam persisted for many hours at the Malaysia-Singapore causeway, reportedly caused by a buildup of vehicles originating from Singapore, according to the South China Morning Post. The issue reportedly began at about noon on the Singapore side, and a Malaysian home ministry official noted that a truck heading to Singapore experiencing mechanical failure exacerbated the situation.
The South China Morning Post reported that the traffic congestion at the Malaysia-Singapore causeway endured for many hours, which was attributed to a build-up of vehicles coming from Singapore, even though all Malaysian customs counters were operational.
Specifically, the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine complex in the southern state of Johor had all its counters functioning at an optimal level, yet the jam persisted for an extended period due to the influx of vehicles from the Singapore side.
Information suggests that the problem commenced around noon on the Singapore side. Furthermore, a Malaysian home ministry official stated that the circumstances were made worse by a truck traveling toward Singapore that encountered a mechanical failure.
