According to the South China Morning Post, UK Indo-Pacific minister Rosie Winterton traveled to Hong Kong's primary technology hub to deliberate on strategies to increase technological collaboration within the Greater Bay Area. Her objectives included strengthening connections across business, education, and people-to-people spheres with the city.

During her time there, Winterton also brought up concerns regarding the detention of former media boss Jimmy Lai Chee-ying while engaging in discussions with Cui Jianchun, who is described as Beijing's top diplomat in the city, as well as local officials.

In a media briefing held on Friday, Winterton stated that the aim is to reinforce those connections across business, education, and people.
