French authorities have detained 72‑year‑old Hicham Harb, a key suspect in the 1982 grenade and gun attack on a Jewish restaurant in Paris that killed six people. Harb, whose real name is Mahmoud Khader Abed Adra, was extradited by the Palestinian National Authority following a request from France’s National Anti‑Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office.
The assault on Rue des Rosiers in the historic Marais quarter involved a grenade thrown into the restaurant, followed by gunfire from three men who entered the building as diners fled. The incident left more than 20 people wounded and remains the only time six people were killed in that venue.
France’s highest court has already ordered a trial for six suspects, with three currently in absentia living in the West Bank, Jordan and Kuwait. Two individuals are already in France, one a Norwegian citizen suspected of firing the gun and another suspected of hiding weapons. Harb’s extradition adds a new defendant to the proceedings.
French President Emmanuel Macron praised the Palestinian Authority for its cooperation, citing it as evidence of judicial collaboration after France’s 2025 recognition of a Palestinian state. The case has drawn responses from families of the victims, with officials affirming the commitment to bring all suspects to justice.
