According to BBC UK, a teenager admitted to stabbing a 17-year-old boy in an unprovoked attack that resulted in the victim having his leg amputated. The incident occurred in May 2026 while the victim was on a bank holiday trip to Barry Island.

Idris Ahmed, who is from Riverside in Cardiff, had previously denied charges of possessing a knife and grievous bodily harm with intent, but changed his plea to guilty on Tuesday. Ahmed, who is 19, allegedly attacked the teenager without warning after the victim was attempting to mediate between the group Ahmed was with and members of his own party. Ahmed is anticipated to receive a sentence on November 27.

The 17-year-old victim previously informed the jury that he experienced heavy bleeding and lost consciousness intermittently immediately following the stabbing. He was transported by air to the hospital, where he underwent four surgeries; however, despite multiple transfusions, oxygen was not flowing correctly to the leg. The jury determined that the teenager required a through-knee amputation, which involved removing the lower half of his leg.

On Monday, the court heard that the 17-year-old fell to the ground after the assault and appeared pale, stating, "I am going, I feel myself going."

Ahmed subsequently fled the area and discarded the knife near a nearby structure. An eyewitness observed this action and later identified the 19-year-old during an identity parade. Before discarding the object, Ahmed was heard saying, "I need to dash this."

Furthermore, Ahmed was apprehended while fleeing the scene by a woman who was taking selfies on the beach with her partner. The court noted that Ahmed had no prior convictions. Judge Daniel Williams characterized grievous bodily harm with intent as a "very, very serious offence." The judge stated that pre-sentencing reports would determine the duration of Ahmed's time in a young offenders institution.
