Teen Rescued from Bonfire in Strabane After Being Knocked Unconscious
A 17-year-old girl named Tianna Patterson rescued another 17-year-old boy from a bonfire in Strabane, County Tyrone, after he was knocked unconscious by a punch. The boy sustained severe burns and will require extensive medical care.
According to a report from BBC UK, a 17-year-old girl named Tianna Patterson rescued an injured teenage boy from a bonfire, stating that her actions were instinctive. The boy, who is also 17, fell into the bonfire in Strabane, County Tyrone, subsequent to being knocked unconscious by a punch. A local councillor mentioned speaking with the boy's mother, noting that he had sustained "severe burns" to his face and hands.
Tianna Patterson recounted that she witnessed the boy collapse and fall into the fire, and her immediate impulse was to assist him. She stated that she had seen him being assaulted just moments before the incident. Patterson explained that she reached for the boy by the neck and pulled him out of the bonfire, after which she used a friend's phone to contact emergency services. The A Level student from Holy Cross College in Strabane confirmed that she was at the bonfire with friends when the event occurred on Saturday night. Her mother, Alex, expressed pride in her actions, noting that she acted quickly to rescue the young man and secure help from emergency services, preventing what could have been a terrible tragedy.
Independent councillor Paul Gallagher, who spoke with the boy's mother, described her as "distraught." Gallagher informed BBC Radio Foyle's North West Today programme that young people attended the bonfire, and in the resulting chaos, a 17-year-old was knocked unconscious and fell onto a fire that he described as white hot. Gallagher added that the boy would need extensive medical attention and that his recovery would take a considerable amount of time. He commented that the chaos surrounding a bonfire is chaotic and that it should never happen for a young boy to be knocked out and placed on a fire. Gallagher asserted that bonfires offer little benefit, are destructive, and pose a serious danger to young people.
Police are actively searching for the individual who attacked the boy, though no arrests have been made. Authorities have issued an appeal for any witnesses to come forward, including anyone who may have recorded the assault on their mobile phones.
