Prosecutors in Minnesota have filed felony charges against an ICE agent, Gregory Donnell Morgan Jr., concerning an alleged incident during rush hour traffic. The charges stem from an event on February 5th on Highway 62 in Minneapolis, which occurred during a large-scale federal immigration enforcement effort. According to the county attorney, Morgan allegedly maneuvered his vehicle to pull alongside two individuals, at which point he pointed his service weapon directly at them.
The criminal complaint details that the confrontation took place near the I-35W interchange when traffic was slowed. Authorities noted that Morgan was not responding to an emergency at the time and was driving an unmarked, rented SUV. He stated to investigators that he feared for his safety and believed the victims were ‘agitators’ who were obstructing him in his return to his station.
As a result of the allegations, Morgan faces two counts of second-degree assault, each potentially carrying a sentence of up to seven years in prison. In addition to the criminal charges, the county attorney’s office has reportedly issued a nationwide arrest warrant for the agent. Bail has been established at $100,000 under strict conditions.
It is also noteworthy that this legal action comes independently of the unresolved situation concerning Savanah Hernandez, a reporter, regarding an earlier reported attack.
