Guyana’s Ken Harvey participated in the intense boxing semifinals at the South American Youth Games held in Panama. In the highly competitive 60kg semifinal match against Brazil’s Maicon Dos Santos, Harvey displayed considerable skill throughout the bout.
The bout proved to be a closely contested affair, with judges being divided on individual rounds. Harvey started strongly, earning favorable markings from some judges in the initial round, while Dos Santos received support from others.
The fight saw dramatic shifts in momentum. Harvey managed to reclaim the second round based on the scoring of two judges, and he finished the third round powerfully, clinching that round’s decision from a majority of the panel, including one judge awarding him the entire round.
Despite Harvey securing a round victory on the majority of the cards and a comprehensive scoring round from one judge, the overall decision favored Dos Santos by points. Nevertheless, Harvey’s effort culminated in a significant achievement, earning him the bronze medal as a proud competitor for Guyana after three action-packed rounds.
